Get ready to dive into the world of acting and learn the tools of how to truly bring yourself to your characters. Relaxation and Sensory Work are the basic fundamentals of Lee Strasberg’s “The Method”.
Relaxation is the basis of the actor's work. It is here the actor learns how to cultivate an active awareness of their instruments. Students will be guided through a relaxation exercise learning; how to free themselves from Mental and Physical tension. Relaxation strengthens the imagination as well as the actor's concentration. Relaxation will leave the actor feeling present, free from tension and open to activate and receive the Sensory World they will create.
Sensory Work is the next step to our training. It is here where we continue to exercise our concentration muscles and our imagination through activating each of our five senses. Actors will explore how to use their five senses as triggers for the reality they are trying to create.
Movement for the Actor activates and releases tension from those same areas as when we practice our standard relaxation exercise. We will be on our feet as we explore our 7 Chakra points through a fun movement activation leaving the actor present, balanced and ready to explore.
We should have at least 8 Theatre Monologues in our back pocket! Actors will work on an audition monologue, applying their sensory training, receiving feedback and applying adjustments.
"Astoria is a neighborhood many actors and artists call home, yet there's a limited Quality of Adult Acting Classes being offered, ultimately leading to the creation of Astoria Acting Workshop.
I wanted to use my Training and Mastery to help my fellow artists living in the neighborhood, making it a more convenient and accessible way to receive quality training. When I say quality, I'm talking about classes that teach actual technique.
Acting classes are like a gym; it's a place you go to learn, practice and exercise. We especially need acting classes between gigs so that we can keep working on our craft and be ready for when that call comes in. If we don't use it, we lose it.
Spend your time and money on a class that will actually help you grow as an artist. It's not just about performing a scene for our friends and family, it's about becoming a better actor. Here at Astoria Acting Workshop, I can Teach You how". - Elizabeth

"The workshop was exactly what I needed. It reinforced how sensory work and relaxation connect with inner work and tapping into the inner child—something I know I need to focus on. It left me excited to explore more workshops. The instructor’s energy was amazing, and the whole experience felt more like connecting with my tribe than just attending a class." - Gary R.
"... learning different aspects that can be incorporated in order to achieve a believable performance." - Francis K.
It's okay! This workshop is great for the Actor who hasn't taken a class in a while and is looking for a place to brush up on their craft. We all know what it feels like between gigs and we can stay fresh by taking a class. It's also hard finding a decent class to take where you can actually work, and no pressure to perform like a pay to play workshop. Small group sizes.
Are you new to Acting and haven't really taken a class yet? Don't know where to start? We have all been there! Come learn actual technique and be surrounded by a supportive community. It can seem overwhelming at times; not knowing where to spend your time and money. You will receive training in Lee Strasberg's "The Method" acting technique that will serve you throughout your career.
Have you recently graduated from an academy or taken an intensive? Astoria Acting Workshop is perfect for the actor looking to learn another way in, without making a commitment or paying the tuition to academia. Every actor has their own method for every role, come learn more tools for the toolbox!
